Dear Van Buren R-1 School District Community,

It is with great pleasure and excitement that I extend a warm welcome to all of you as the next Superintendent of the Van Buren R-1 School District. My name is Amy Jackson, and I am incredibly honored to serve in this capacity, bringing with me a deep connection to this district and a genuine dedication to our community.

As a graduate of Van Buren High School myself, I understand the profound impact that our district can have on the lives of its students. This community holds a special place in my heart, as many generations of my family have not only lived in this area but have also graduated from VBHS, including my great-grandmother, Mariam McSpadden, who was in the very first graduating class here in 1922. 

My journey as an educator began as a substitute and then as aide in the elementary. I then became a Title I reading teacher, where I witnessed the transformative power of literacy firsthand. My next privilege was teaching third grade, nurturing young minds, and instilling a love for learning with just enough fun to make the days memorable. In 2014, I was appointed as the principal of Van Buren Elementary, and throughout my tenure, my commitment to Van Buren R-1 School District has only deepened.

Beyond my professional endeavors, I am a proud parent of two wonderful children. My son, Connor, graduated from Van Buren High School in 2020 and he will graduate from Missouri State this year, and my daughter, Vivienne, is currently a senior, eagerly awaiting her own graduation this year. Their experiences within this district have reinforced my belief in the excellence of our educational programs and the unwavering dedication of our staff.

As I step into this role as your Superintendent, I want to assure you that my commitment to the Van Buren R-1 School District is unwavering. Together with our talented and passionate team of educators, administrators, staff, and parents, we will continue to provide a safe, nurturing, and high-quality learning environment for our students.

Your support and involvement in the education of our students are crucial, and I encourage you to actively participate in our various initiatives, attend school events, and engage in meaningful discussions that shape the future of our district.

I am truly excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with each and every one of you as we continue to elevate the Van Buren R-1 School District to new heights of excellence. Together, we will create an environment where our students can thrive, grow, and reach their full potential.
